Hon. Leah Taylor Roy’s 2025 New Year’s Levee: Building a Stronger Future Together

【Helen Yang/Red Maple Journal】  On January19, 2025, The Hon.Leah Taylor Roy, Member of Parliament for Aurora-Oak Ridges-Richmond Hill, hosted her second annual New Year’s Levee, celebrating progress, reflecting on achievements, and looking ahead.

The event welcomed over 200 residents, community leaders and dignitaries to review the accomplishments of 2024, outline priorities for 2025, and express gratitude for the community’s ongoing support. A community walk and reception provided attendees with opportunities for meaningful dialogue and connection.

Hon.Taylor Roy highlighted her community engagement over the past year, attending more than 200 events and meetings, supporting housing, business and community well-being. She also spoke about her leadership roles, representing Canada through international missions, legislative work, and committee involvement to advocate for democracy and global collaboration.

She outlined the progress in Aurora-Oak Ridges-Richmond Hill with the federal funding secured,including $72.5M for childcare,benefiting 14, 500 families; $31M for affordable housing projects in Richmond Hill; $27M to support 550 local businesses to foster innovation; $3.5M for planting 25,000 trees and creating 17km of green trails.

Looking ahead to 2025, Hon.Taylor Roy emphasized her vision for a stronger, more sustainable community. Her priorities include enhancing affordability, promoting inclusivity and advancing environmental sustainability. She encouraged residents to stay engaged, highlighting the importance of collective efforts in achieving these goals.

His Worship David West, Mayor of Richmond Hill, and His Worship Tom Taylor,retired Mayor of Newmarket, also attended the levee. They joined Hon.Taylor Roy in engaging directly with attendees and listening to their perspectives.

In closing, Hon.Taylor Roy reaffirmed her dedication to working collaboratively with residents to create a vibrant, thriving Aurora-Oak Ridges-Richmond Hill. She emphasized that progress and a stronger future are driven by partnership, shared vision, and active participation.
