【Red Maple Journal/Helen Yang】On March6,2026,the Aurora–Oak Ridges–Richmond Hill Liberal Women’s Club presented a special event,Women Who Lead:An Evening in Celebration of International Women’s Day,which filled the Aurora Cultural Centre to capacity and brought together community leaders,supporters,and members of the Liberal Party.

The evening featured a fireside conversation between former Member of Parliament Leah Taylor Roy and Canada’s Minister of Industry,the Honourable Mélanie Joly,explored women’s leadership and their contributions to public life.

Leah Taylor Roy opened the event with remarks emphasized unity and collective responsibility,the importance of advancing gender equality to ensure that no talent is overlooked due to barriers.She encouraged women to pursue political aspirations bravely and introduced Minister Joly as a resilient leader who has navigated challenges and continues to serve Canada with dedication.

During the conversation,Minister Joly shared candid reflections on her journey in politics.She described entering public office without the conventional credentials or networks often expected and highlighted how perseverance and conviction enabled her to transform obstacles into sources of strength.She motivated women to bring their full identities and perspectives into leadership roles and expressed her hope that Leah Taylor Roy will return to Parliament Hill to represent the Liberal Party in her riding in the future.
